The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is the only open-door animal shelter on the island of St. Croix. Every year, we take in thousands of stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. No animal in need is turned away. We provide them with essential medical care, nutritious meals, and the best possible chance of a forever home. So far in 2020, we have saved 86% of the animals who have come through our doors - more than ever before in the history of our shelter!
We find homes for homeless St. Croix pets here on the island, and in the States through our Paws from Paradise transfer program. Our low-cost Community Clinic makes affordable pet care, including spay/neuter surgeries, available to all residents of the island. Project SAFE, our community outreach program, goes door-to-door in neighborhoods where pet owners are especially likely to need our services, providing free or extremely low-cost care. Our Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Release program helps to control the population of free-roaming "community cats" on the island. We rescue animals in distress, and work with local authorities to investigate cases of animal abuse and neglect. All the proceeds from your purchases on this site support all of these efforts to save and improve the lives of the animals of St. Croix.
About Us
The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center was founded in 1973. Our mission is to provide and promote the humane treatment of animals through education, animal protection and community service. Our duty is to serve the orphaned, abused, neglected, and otherwise unwanted animals of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we depend upon your donations and support for everything that we do. In 2017, Hurricane Maria destroyed our shelter facility, our home for over 40 years. We are operating out of temporary locations as we try to raises the funds necessary to rebuild our home. Now more than ever, your support is essential to our ability to continue to help the animals of St. Croix.
